Tips For Decorating With Round Rugs

No matter what type of flooring you have, such as ceramic tile or hardwood, the rugs that you place on it will become the focal point of any room. Since most rugs are typically square or rectangular in shape, choosing a round floor covering will give any space a unique, eclectic look.

Like traditional square rugs, their round counterparts also come in a wide variety of sizes, colors, and even patterns. When choosing the perfect round rugs for your home, consider your overall decor style or color scheme to create a cohesive appearance.

Round rugs look appropriate in any room in a home, such as a bedroom, living room, office, den, or even a kitchen. The right rug can draw several different pieces of furniture or art pieces together, especially if it features a variety of colors or a themed design, such as flowers or seashells.

The following are some tips for decorating any room in your home with round rugs.

1. Use Them in Small Rooms

Since they have a more fluid appearance when compared to the sharp lines of square rugs, round rugs are ideal for small spaces, such as kid or guest bedrooms. Round rugs may take up less visual space, giving the appearance of more room.

When placed in the center of a small room, it will typically be the first thing you notice, so make sure it blends well with the furniture, textiles, and decor. For instance, if your bed comforter and curtains both feature the color red, go with a red rug to visually draw the two items together.

If you don't want to place the round rug in the middle of the room, place it under a substantial piece, such as a desk or nightstand, instead. You can also use several smaller round rugs throughout the space rather than one large one.

2. Layer the Rug Look

Round rugs are versatile in that they can be layered with rugs in various sizes and shapes to create a one-of-a-kind look. For instance, place a large rectangular rug in the center of a room, and use smaller round rugs to accent different areas, such as a reading nook or a music space. You can put a round rug under the piano or a coffee table to add a soft touch and a pop of color to the area.

Other rug-layering options include a large round center rug and two smaller square rugs, or several round rugs in various sizes. If you go with the last idea, mix and match the rugs' colors and patterns as a creative touch.
